Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Real Simple Card Organizer

You're reading this blog, so there's a good chance that you like bargains.

So, chances are you carry around a lot of store loyalty cards in your purse to ensure that you never miss out on a bargain. My wallet was bulging with loyalty and frequent shopper cards until I found this gem of an organizer from Real Simple.

It's a card wheel with plastic pockets for storing business cards, credit cards or loyalty cards. Such a simple concept, but so useful and practical.

Mine is bulging to bursting. On one side, I keep my restaurant loyalty cards. On the other, my store loyalty cards. When a clerk asks me, "Are you a member of our VIP club?" I whip out my card wheel like I'm dealing blackjack in Vegas.

I'm such a fan of this product that I've given one to each of my friends. I love it, love it, love it.

And today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, which is extending into November until I've given way 31 prizes, I'm giving one lucky reader her (or his!) own Real Simple card wheel.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Buckhead Betties Madras Plaid Handbag

When my dad was in junior high, he went to Belk's department store and charged a pair of madras plaid pants on his parents' account. The next day, he wore the pants to school -- even though they were strictly forbidden -- and was promptly sent home by the principal.

Needless to say, my dad got into big trouble with his parents. And those madras plaid pants mysteriously disappeared. Until the day she died, my grandmother swore she didn't know what happened to them. But ask my Uncle Jerry about them, and he cracks into a big grin. We'll get to the bottom of the madras plaid mystery some day.

But not knowing makes a better story.

Today's Goo Goo Giveaway is in honor of my Dad and those (I'm sure butt-ugly) pants. I'm giving away a cute Buckhead Betties madras plaid purse. I'm actually a big fan of madras plaid, but I can't imagine my dad in a pair -- even as a preteen. That screams big fashion faux pas!

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Indulgence and Relaxation Kit

I'm sitting here blogging with a mess of chores awaiting me and a laundry list of to-dos, one of them being laundry, and all I want to do is sink into the bathtub with a good book and a glass of champagne.

Ever have those moments?

I do, all the time. And I don't indulge myself nearly enough, though I probably get more opportunities for pampering than many busy women. That's because I'm learning to make and take time for myself. It's tough when you're busy and programmed to go, go, go, do, do, do, give, give, give. But taking care of yourself is crucial to your health and happiness and the health and happiness of those around you. There's a lot of truth to the statement, "If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy."

In the spirit of relaxation and taking care of ourselves, today's prize in the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza is an Indulgence and Relaxation Kit.

The kit, featuring products from Ulta, comes packaged in a Buckhead Betties makeup bag. It includes some lusciously scented body cream, shower gel, bubble bath, an eye mask and headband.

I'm not going to make you jump through a lot of hoops to enter this giveaway. Simply post a comment pledging that you'll take time for yourself today, no matter how busy you are or how much others need you.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Pier One Wine Opener Set

I don't fancy myself an oenophile -- I can't detect hints of chocolate or a fruity finish to save my life. But I do enjoy a glass of wine now and then.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten a bit more sophisticated in my drinking habits. I wouldn't let the Boone's Farm wine that sustained me during my college days to cross my threshold!

In vino veritas, and I've had a glass tonight!

Seriously, though, I enjoy a good glass of wine and the ritual of drinking it.

As I've come to appreciate finer wines, I've upgraded my barware. Whether I'm hosting a party or enjoying a glass in solitude, I like to serve it in my finest crystal wine glasses. I've never been one to stash my good china and crystal away for "special occasions." I like to display it and use it; otherwise, what's the point in having it?

I used to use a cheapo corkscrew to open my wine, and I often struggled to wrest the cork from the bottle. That's no fun, which is why I invested in a nice set of wine accessories to make opening wine easier and more enjoyable.

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away a sleek wine opener set from Pier One. I think it looks like just the sort of thing Don Draper on Mad Men might keep in his bar. The set includes a corkscrew, wine bottle collar, cutter and wine stopper.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Pewter Wine Bottle Charm

Today is my friend, Debbie's 40th birthday.

She may kill me for publicizing that on that fact on the Internet, but I doubt it. Debbie knows that women just get better with age, like fine wine. (So cliched, but so true, in my opinion.)

In honor of Debbie's birthday and as a testament to the fact that she is getting better with age, I'm giving away a pewter "Happy Birthday" wine bottle charm from Lindsay Claire Designs. I wish I could include a bottle of wine, too, but I think Debbie and I might drink it!

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Horizon Little Blends Thermos Prize Pack

Recently, I wrote about my struggles to get my picky preschooler eat his fruits and vegetables.

Given this photo, you wouldn't think that would be a problem. This past weekend, we took a trip to the North Carolina mountains and went to an apple orchard to do some picking. The picky boy picked up an apple and ate the whole thing (after I'd removed the skin with my teeth!)

Fluke, I tell you. Fluke. I'm hoping his taste for apples will last for as long as the peck of handpicked ones lasts.
But I also have a new weapon in my mealtime arsenal. Horizon has introduced Little Blends, a selection of all-natural yogurts made with fruits and vegetables. Thanks to TwitterMoms and Horizon, we got the chance to try Little Blends for free, and it's a thumbs up all around.

Jackson loved the apple and butternut squash yogurt that we sampled. But he didn't have a clue that he was eating fruit and vegetables because the yogurt is smooth blended. Little Blends are perfect for those of us who have kids who will pick out every trace of fruit and vegetable in a dish. That's Jackson. He'll only eat smooth yogurt, not the kind with fruit blended in. Heck, this kid won't even eat green pasta!

As part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving one lucky winner a Little Blends prize pack that includes an insulated Thermos Snak Jar, a Little Blends spoon and a coupon for a free four-pack of Little Blends.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: $10 Bath & Body Works Gift Card

It's gift card time again.

I'm giving away another one today as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza.

But first, you'll have to indulge me a story.

Now, when it comes to giving gifts, I tend to stay away from gift cards because I pride myself on surprising my friends and family with thoughtful gifts that show I've been listening to them as they've voiced their wants/needs throughout the year. In fact, I keep an ongoing gift list on my BlackBerry just for that purpose. When a friend or my hubby or another family member mentions that they like something, I jot it down. I consult that list when birthdays, Christmas and other gift-giving occasions roll around.

Now, I'm not saying that I think gift cards are impersonal or thoughtless gifts. Quite the contrary. I just really like shopping and giving gifts that I think the recipient will love and want.
But I love getting a gift card to my favorite stores/salons/spas/restaurants because there's always something I want from there.

In fact, I have a quite generous gift card burning a hole through my wallet. For our wedding anniversary last month, my husband gave me $200 worth of pampering at one of my favorite spas. Isn't he sweet? I think he intended me to take an entire spa day, but I plan to parcel the gift card out so I can get three or four massages or facials. That will actually buy me more relaxation.

And since we're on the theme of relaxation today, how about a $10 gift card from Bath & Body Works?

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Snowbabies Little Blessing Ornament

The stores started hauling out the Christmas decorations months ago. Maybe it's time for us to get into the Christmas spirit, too.

After all, Christmas is just two months away.

Deck the halls...fa la la la la...pa rum pum pum pum...bah humbug and all the rest...

Here's a little something to get your decorating starting -- a precious Snowbabies Little Blessing ornament in pink to commemorate the little blessing in your life. One lucky reader will win this ornament as part of my Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza.

*******************************
To enter the giveaway, post a comment below sharing with me your favorite holiday decoration. (Mine is an advent calendar my mom cross-stitched for us as kids and passed along to me. I can recite from memory the poem that's on it: "December 1st to Christmas is the longest time of year. It seems as though old Santa never will appear. Untie a candy every night when the Sandman casts his spell and Christmas will be here by the time you reach the bell.")

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Adorable Beaded Wire Frame Handbag

Apparently, I'm an addict who wants company.

That would explain why I'm giving away three handbags this week as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza. I want everyone to have as many handbags as I do. (And please don't ask how many I have. I don't know. It's not to Hoarders levels -- yet -- but I could use a new house with a custom purse and shoe closet.

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away an adorable beaded wire frame evening bag embellished with a floral broach. This is a very unique bag, sure to get compliments when you carry it to a holiday party.

I know you want it, so let the contest begin.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Black Beaded Wristlet

My love of fashionable accessories has been well-established on this blog.

I'm of the opinion that a woman can never have enough shoes or handbags in every color, shape, size and manner of sparkle.

And just as every woman needs a little black dress in her wardrobe, she needs a little black bag as well.

Here in the Beigeboro -- as a friend once christened our town -- we don't get invited to many black-tie events. But there are times when I need to put on a little sparkle. On those occasions, I always reach for the same bag, even though I literally have a closet full of purses.

Now, my go-to-evening bag is silver, but it has a lot in common with the bag I'm giving away today. It's a wristlet, and it's just a wisp of a thing -- big enough only to carry essentials like a driver's license, a tube of lipstick, a few bills, a debit card and my phone. I personally think wristlets are the best bags to carry to formal events and other dressy soirees. They're super-chic, but they're so much easier to carry than a clutch. Think about it: What do you do with your evening bag when you're trying to nibble on finger foods and sip some champagne? If it's a wristlet, you need only to slip it on your wrist. Hands-free partying.

One lucky reader will be slipping this satin beaded Amanda Smith wristlet on her wrist throughout the holiday party season as the winner of my latest Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza.

(I apologize that the photo is a little blown out. I don't have the best camera or the best skills.)

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza:: Bandolino Seersucker Clutch

Here in the South, we have a few trademarks. Elsewhere in the country, you might call them idiosyncrasies.

We like grits, and you'd like 'em, too, if you'd ever had them prepared by a southerner.

We drink our tea sweet and iced.

Even the most educated of us say y'all -- and even in the most formal settings.

Our men aren't afraid to wear seersucker suits. In fact, they look quite dapper in them.

If you've ever spent a summer in the South, you'd understand the appeal of seersucker. It's lightweight, crisp, cool and oh-so-fashionable, in a timeless sort of way.

Now, not everyone is cut out to wear seersucker head to toe. You have to have a certain air of the Old South about you to pull out a seersucker suit. But seersucker, in my opinion, is one of the freshest ways accessorize, especially in the heat.

That's why I'm giving away this adorable Bandolino seersucker clutch to one lucky reader as part of the monthlong Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza.

Now if you're a stickler for follow fashion rules, you'll have to save this bag for next summer. But here in the South, where it can be sweltering even in November, I've always thought it fine to flout those rules. No white after labor day? Maybe in Juneau or Green Bay. But in Greensboro and Charleston, those rules don't apply.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Chef'n Peeler

I'm kinda like Cliff Huxtable when it comes to kitchen gadgets. (How's that for an old-school Cosby Show reference?) I love 'em.

But over the years, I've learned that most gadgets aren't as useful or as practical as they seem to be. Like the Vidalia onion chopper. I have one, and it works as advertised, but it's a pain to drag out of the cabinet and clean. So, when I need to chop some onions, I reach for my trusty chef's knife.

That's why I'm so thrilled when I find a gadget that really is practical and that I keep going back to, meal prep after meal prep.

My Chef'N Peeler is one such gadget.

I have several vegetable peelers in my drawer, but I always reach for the Chef'n Peeler. I like it because it's super sharp and super safe. You just slide it on your finger like a ring and get to work. I've found that I can peel vegetables much more quickly with this gadget than with a regular peeler because I don't have to worry about it flying out of my hand. It's also great for someone like me who has carpal tunnel syndrome. When I use a regular peeler, my hands can cramp, especially if I have a large batch of vegetables to cook.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Hanna Andersson Red Infant Moccasins

I love Hanna Andersson moccasins for kids so much that I'm giving away a second pair during the monthlong Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza.

Here's what's up for grabs today: a brand new pair of Hanna Andersson Red Moccasins (Size 5-7). The sole measures 5 3/4 inches and will fit a 10-24 month old, according to Hanna Andersson.
My son has had several pair of Hanna moccasins, and they're a godsend on winter mornings. I like buying Jackson moccasins and long johns because he gets so much more wear out of them than footie pajamas. (He's a tall little guy, so he outgrows those pajamas with feet quickly.)

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Ikea Gift Card

We went to Ikea this weekend.

I can't get enough of this store. While my own decorating style is more traditional than Ikea's mostly contemporary, urban looks, Ikea appeals to the bargain-hunting, longs-to-be-organized part of me.

I was there for the Ikea Charlotte grand opening in February. Booked a hotel for the event, since we live about 90 miles away. Dropped the boy off with his grandparents. Stood in a cold drizzle waiting for the store to open. Since then, I've visited the store at least once a month. I've also introduced numerous friends and family members to the retail haven/heaven that is Ikea.

On Sunday, as we drove to the blue-and-gold Mecca and I giddily anticipated our purchases, I asked my husband: "What did I do when I could only visit Ikea once a year? Or once every couple of years?"

His response: "I don't know. But I had a lot more money, then."

Funny, Bruce. Very funny.

Why do I love Ikea? The reasons are myriad. But here's the big reason why: Ikea allows me to indulge my redecorating and organizing whims very affordably.

This weekend was a perfect example. I've been thinking for some time now that as Jackson outgrows his clothing, he's also outgrowing his baby bureau. His big boy clothes just don't fit it in it anymore. I've had my eye on the Hemnes 6-drawer chest from Ikea for quite a while. What do you know? The dress fits with his bedroom decor and our budget. Now, I just gotta put that sucker together.

While I was at Ikea, I snagged a $10 gift card to give away as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza. It won't buy you a new dresser, but $10 goes a long way at Ikea.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Stylish Primo Water Dispenser

Did you know that Americans consume 1,500 bottles of water every second?

The majority of those bottles -- 1,200 -- wind up in landfills and are not recycled.

Kinda makes you want to swear off bottled water forever, doesn't it?

Well, I did that earlier this summer after I began doing some work for Primo Water, a company that is doing its best to educate consumers about the environmental cost of bottled water and to educate us about more eco-friendly alternatives to the bottle.

Primo is asking consumers to break free from bottled water to prevent BILLIONS of plastic bottles from going into our landfills every year.

"Our goal is to empower consumers to break free of the bottled water habit, which is hurting our planet," said Primo Water CEO Billy Prim. "We believe we can make a substantial environmental impact by informing Americans of the true costs of bottled water and introducing them to an even better alternative than tap or filtered water."

Unlike companies that are pushing tap water filters, Primo Water understands why water drinkers took to the bottle in the first place: it's a convenient source for cold, delicious water. Primo Water dispensers offer a Zero Waste alternative, while at the same time delivering convenient access to pure, healthy and delicious cold (or hot) water at the push of a button.

Home filtration systems, while popular, are often ineffective at removing all contaminants from water, including harmful microbials. In addition, filters must be replaced monthly, making these systems expensive and time-consuming to maintain. And what's the payoff for all that work and expense? Boring, lukewarm tap water.

And there's mounting evidence that our tap water isn't as safe as we've been led to believe.

It's no wonder that bottled water drinkers by the hundreds of thousands are buying Primo Water dispensers for their homes. They're trading an environmentally harmful habit for a green one without sacrificing convenience or decreasing their intake of healthy water.

Primo Water dispensers require no costly filters, and they consistently deliver refreshingly pure and great tasting cold water. Each dispenser offers instant access to hot or cold water, and some also have a third "cool" option. Consumers can choose from stylish-looking, top-loading dispensers, to new bottom-loading dispensers that cleverly hide the bottles in the bottom cabinet. Prices for Primo's Energy Star-rated dispensers start at just $99 at leading mass merchandise and home improvement retailers nationwide.

Primo Water, available in 3-gallon and 5-gallon bottles at grocery, mass merchant and home improvement stores nationwide, is 99.99 percent pure, and it is enhanced with minerals for a great taste with a silky finish. In fact, Primo Water is preferred by 3 out of 4 people over the nation's leading water brands.

Dispensers are a great green alternative, because they allow consumers easily to reduce, reuse and recycle:

  • Reduce: By switching to a dispenser, the average family will prevent more than 1,000 single serve bottles per year from going into landfills
  • Reuse: Bottles used in dispensers can be refilled 60 times before they are recycled
  • Recycle: At the end of their life cycle, Primo's water bottles are recycled with no waste going into landfills
Primo Water really has redefined the water cooler into a sleek and attractive home appliance. And it's a much greener alternative than buying bottled water.

Before I learned about Primo, I'd never considered having a water cooler in my home. For three reasons: I'm much too picky about my decor to want to make an ugly water cooler a fixture in my kitchen. Second, I wasn't willing to pay for in-home delivery because I know from the experience of having it at my office that cooler rental and delivery can be expensive. Thirdly, I've hefted those heavy water jugs at the office and spilled them all over the floor, and that's an experience I didn't want to repeat at home.

But Primo Water has an answer for all my objections.

1) Primo Water offers both top and bottom loading dispensers, which cleverly hide the water bottles. Most look like miniature refrigerators, and there are designs in stainless steel, white and black to match your other kitchen appliances.

2) Primo Water offers an innovative in-store exchange system. When you need more water, you just take an empty jug back to your local grocery, mass merchandise or home improvement store and exchange it for a full bottle. (If you've ever exchanged a propane tank for your gas grill, a Primo Water exchange works the same way.)

3) There's no heavy lifting with Primo Water and no spills if you have a bottom-loading dispenser, which is what I chose. My toddler and I loaded our first bottle of water in no time. I just pulled off the cap, slid the bottle inside the cabinet, inserted the pump, tightened the cap and shut the cooler door.

The best thing about having a Primo Water dispenser is that it encourages our family to drink more water.

In the past, my son has been known to throw his sippy cup in protest when I filled it with water instead of watered down juice or milk. But there's a real coolness factor of getting water out of our Primo dispenser, or as Jackson likes to call it, our water machine.

Funny story: We have a set of zoo Lego's, and whenever we play with them, Jackson builds a "water machine" for the polar bears.

I'd read the research from Primo that children in homes with water dispensers drink more water. Now, I've seen that statistic come to life in my own home.

If you're interested in a Primo Water dispenser for your home, I encourage you to browse the models online. And to find out what stores in your area carry Primo's 3-gallon and 5-gallon water bottles, go here.

As part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away a sleek new Primo Water stainless, bottom-loading dispenser just like the one pictured above to one lucky reader.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Yoplait Whips! Gift Bag

Two posts in a row about yogurt! It's clear that we're really getting our recommended daily servings of dairy in our house.

Seriously, though, the kind folks at MyBlogSpark and Yoplait recently offered me the opportunity to sample and review Yoplait Whips! I couldn't say possibly say no, as Yoplait Whips! have long been one of my favorite yogurts.

I love the airy, fluffiness of it, so much like mousse. In fact, while I'll eat other yogurt as breakfast, I always save my Yoplait Whips! as dessert. My two favorite flavors are Key Lime and Chocolate because they're low-cal versions of two decadent desserts -- key lime pie and chocolate mousse.

Lamentably, it is sometimes hard to find Yoplait Whips! in my grocery store dairy case. Unfortunately, some of the stores where I shop don't stock the Whips! and those that do carry a very limited selection of flavors.

And that bums me out because Yoplait Whips! are available in a variety of other flavors: Strawberry Mist, Orange Crème, Chocolate Raspberry, Lemon Burst, Peaches 'N Cream, Raspberry Mousse and the new Vanilla Creme.

And guess what else I learned from the insiders at Yoplait? The delicious taste of Yoplait Whips! can also be enjoyed as a frozen treat!

Yummy. I love frozen yogurt but not driving halfway across town to get it. I've made my own fro-yo a couple of times, but that's way too much work, which explains why my Cuisinart ice cream maker that I got as a wedding gift is shoved in the back of my kitchen cabinet.

I like Yoplait's way better. Simply place your favorite Whips! yogurt cup in the freezer overnight and you will have a chilled yogurt indulgence. Thaw for 5 to 10 minutes and enjoy! Let me say it again: Yummy!

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, two lucky reader will win a Summer Cool Down gift bag from Yoplait!

(Yes, I know it's now fall, but this is definitely a prize pack that is seasonless. And while it's currently 40-degrees here in North Carolina, I'm certain that we're due for a few more summer-like days before it's really coat-and-sweater time. Ditto for most of the rest of the country, I'm sure.)

The gift bag includes two free coupons for Yoplait Whips!, a really nice, large cooler tote, popsicle molds and a set of 12 color-changing spoons

I got one of these gift bags myself, and I've loved it. We've made popsicles and devoured the free yogurt, and I've found the cooler tote to be really useful. I share an office with two other women, and we've lately been having lunchtime potlucks to keep from eating out. When I've brought lunch for the group, I've been able to throw everything into this roomy and versatile cooler tote, including bowls and serving utensils. It will also come in handy for our next family picnic.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Fiber One Healthy & Fit Weight Management Prize Pack

We have a new yogurt in our house -- Yoplait Fiber One 50-calorie, fiber packed yogurt.

I say we because after sampling a bite of my Fiber One yogurt, my toddler son, Jackson, has proclaimed that it's the only yogurt he wants to eat. You'd think a toddler would choose the yogurt emblazoned with images of Dora or dinosaurs or some other cartoon character. But he puts flavor ahead of packaging and grabs for Fiber One every time, much to my chagrin. (I want to hoard the Fiber One yogurt for myself.)

Because I really love this yogurt. It's sweet. It's creamy. It's filling. And it's only 50 calories. How cool is that?

A while back, MyBlogSpark sent me my own Healthy & Fit Weight Management Kit and a coupon for a free four-pack of Fiber One yogurt. I'm already a big Yoplait yogurt lover, so I figured I'd like this new variety. But I didn't realize just how much I'd like it.

I've bought countless four-packs of the yogurt since them, sampling a variety of flavors: vanilla, strawberry and key lime. (My favorite is vanilla, followed closely by key lime. I guess I like my yogurt smooth!)

After being very successful with Weight Watchers several years ago and then falling off the wagon in a major way, I'm trying to "get back on the program," as my mother-in-law would say. And I find that yogurt is a perfect snack. But while they may look healthy, many yogurts are packed with tons of sugar and empty calories. Some are as bad for you as a candy bar.

But not Fiber One yogurt, which is endorsed by diet and healthy lifestyle guru Hungry Girl.

Fiber One yogurt weighs in at 50 calories a serving. Each serving is packed with 5 grams of fiber, 20 percent of the Recommended Daily Value. It is also a good source of calcium and vitamins A and D, and it's nonfat.

Great tasting. Tasty. Filling. Good for you. Won't make you fat. What more could you ask for in a snack?

You can try Yoplait Fiber One yogurt yourself using this $1 off coupon. Pair it with a store sale and you can get four great-tasting snacks for pennies per serving.

Three of my readers will get the opportunity to sample Yoplait Fiber One yogurt for free, thanks to MyBlogSpark. As part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away three Healthy & Fit Weight Management Kits. Each includes a coupon for a free four-pack of Fiber One yogurt, an insulated lunch bag, a pair of nifty spoons and forks, a divided lunch container and a lidded cup great for mixing up smoothies.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Harry Connick Jr. "Your Songs" CD

I get weak in the knees when I hear Harry Connick Jr. sing. That voice makes me want to turn down the lights, light some candles and get romantic.

My husband should be taking notes...

So how could say no when the One2One Network offered me a review copy of the crooner's newest CD, Your Songs? I couldn't. And boy, am I glad to have this CD in my collection. Harry's voice makes me feel mellow, relaxed and in love.

While I'm a huge fan of his original recordings, I particularly like Your Songs because so many of the songs are familiar. Even my husband -- who has a take-him-or-leave-him attitude about Harry Connick Jr. -- enjoyed this album. I even caught him singing along to some of the songs in the car.

As they might say on American Idol, Harry Connick Jr. has a way of making these classic love songs his own, whether he's covering Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, The Beatles or Tony Bennett.

My favorite songs on the album are "Your Song," originally recorded by the great Elton John, and "Just the Way You Are" by Billy Joel. In my opinion, Connick does these singer-songwriters proud with his heartfelt, big-band versions of their songs.

On Your Songs, Harry performs classic songs by some of the greatest musicians of all time, with a full jazz big band and string orchestra. I guarantee you'll know many -- if not all -- of these songs.

Album Tracklisting (Originally performed by):
All The Way (Frank Sinatra)
Just The Way You Are (Billy Joel)
Can’t Help Falling In Love With You (Elvis Presley)
And I Love Her (The Beatles)
(They Long To Be) Close To You (The Carpenters)
Besame Mucho
The Way You Look Tonight
First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack)
Your Song (Elton John)
Some Enchanted Evening
And I Love You So (Don McLean)
Who Can I Turn To? (Tony Bennett)
Smile (Charlie Chaplin)
Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole)

You can buy a copy of Your Songs any way you like it -- standard CD, deluxe CD/DVD or digital download here. When you do, you'll also get an instant MP3 download of "All the Way."

If you have time, check out the behind the scenes making of the album. That voice, those eyes, ahh...

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I have a little music and love to spread, courtesy of the One2One Network. One lucky reader will win a copy of Harry Connick Jr.'s newest CD, Your Songs.

Need a little romance in your life? You might want to enter this contest. I'm just saying...

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Cow Jumped Over the Moon Frame

If we ever have another child, we're going to have to move into another house. And not only because space in our house will be tight.

I've snapped and framed so many photos of our firstborn that we've run out of wall space. We'd need to double our square footage to accommodate all the photos we'd surely take of Number 2.

When we become parents, we suddenly also become photographers. And we need special ways to showcase all the adorable snaps we have of our kids.

This precious Cow Jumped Over the Moon frame is simply adorable, and I bet it would be even more so with a photo of your little sweetie in it. One lucky Goo Goo Buy Buy reader will win this frame as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, which runs throughout the month of October.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Hanna Andersson Very Merry Moccasins

A few years ago, a fellow mommy introduced me on to Hanna Andersson, a source of cute, quality, cotton clothing for kids, moms and dads and even the family pet.

In this day, where everything seems to have a logo on it, I was thrilled to find cute, classic clothing that hold up to everything kids can dish out and still come out of the wash looking great.
He's long since outgrown these pajamas, but doesn't Jackson look adorable in his striped Christmas pajamas from Hanna Andersson? Our doggie, McCoy also had a matching outfit, which she'll be wearing again this Christmas.

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away a brand new pair of Hanna Andersson Very Merry Moccasins (Size 2-4). The sole measures 5 1/4 inches and will fit a 5-12 month old, according to Hanna Andersson.Jackson has had several pair of Hanna moccasins, and they're a godsend on winter mornings. I like buying Jackson moccasins and long johns because he gets so much more wear out of them than footie pajamas. (He's a tall little guy, so he outgrows those pajamas with feet quickly.)

My Tips for Getting Dinner Ready in a Flash

As part of a blogging contest sponsored by Samsung, TwitterMoms poses the question: "What are your three tips for getting dinner ready in a flash?"

I'm happy to share my solutions for getting dinner on the table fast -- and not only because I'd love to win a new Samsung French Door Refrigerator. I firmly believe that sharing meals together helps strengthen families. I know sitting down to dinner with my parents and my brothers was an important part of my childhood, and I want the same for my son. But I also know how difficult that dinner hour can be -- whether you're a working parent or a stay-at-home one.

Depending on the day, I'm both. And whether I've been home all day or whether I've spent the day at the office, there's always a rush to get dinner on the table quickly so we can move on to the next thing in our busy schedules.

I'm convinced that the hour from 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock is shorter than the rest of the hours in the day. After three years juggling my roles of mommy/wife/busy business woman/family CEO, I've developed a few tricks that help me get dinner on the table. And not all of them involve takeout menus and drive-through windows!

Oops -- this blog post is being interrupted for dinner preparation. Be back in a bit after I throw the pork tenderloin and veggies into the oven to roast...

OK, dinner is in the oven, and I'm back at the keyboard to share my tips for getting food on the table fast almost every weeknight.

Plan your meals in advance

I'm relatively new to menu planning, but it has made all the difference for our family. Planning ahead takes much of the stress out of cooking. Panic no longer sets it around 5 o'clock as I wonder, "What's for dinner?" Because I already know.

I usually plan a week's worth of meals every Sunday, then write my grocery list accordingly. This also simplifies and streamlines grocery shopping because I no longer find myself wandering the aisles trying to figure out what we need.

Start with a clean workspace
For sanitation purposes and food safety, it's obviously important to have a clean kitchen. But I've found that when my sink and dishwasher are empty, it's much easier to get to the business of cooking.

When my sink is empty, I don't have to shuffle dirty dishes to wash vegetables or drain pasta. When all the dishes are clean and put away, instead of waiting to be washed in the sink or the dishwasher, I know that all my tools are handy. I don't have stop the meal preparation to wash my saute pan or dig in the dishwasher to find my favorite rubber scraper. (Although I have had to rescue said scraper from the sandbox!)

Prep ahead of time
We try to make it a habit to prep for tomorrow's meals the night before. That means taking meats out of the freezer to thaw, chopping vegetables when possible and preparing marinades in advance.

There are several advantages to this. The obvious is that you have less to do at dinnertime the next night, which increases the likelihood that you'll cook even if you're really frazzled. Secondly, when you prep for tomorrow's supper while cleaning up after tonight's, you're saving yourself cleanup.

Keep your kitchen, refrigerator and your pantry organized
As with other areas in life, organization equals efficiency. If you have to waste precious time searching for ingredients in your pantry and moving stuff around in the fridge, it will take you longer to get dinner on the table. You'll be frazzled and your family will be hungry, and that's a recipe for a tense mealtime.

Bone up on your cooking skills
I do most of the cooking in our house, and my husband handles the cleanup. I'm a more experienced cook and a more skillful one, and that makes me a quicker cook, too. (I'm not disparaging him, just stating a fact.)

My skill and efficiency in the kitchen came through practice and instruction. I've taken a few cooking classes, and I also have asked chefs and cooks I admire for tips on everything from knife skills to deep frying. I read cookbooks and recipes and watch cooking shows on television, in hopes of taking away new tricks and lessons. As a result, I've become much quicker and more skillful in the kitchen, and I'm familiar with most basic cooking techniques. I've also learned how to multi-task and to time meal preparation so that our entree and side dishes are ready at the same time.

Set a regular dinner time
At our house, I usually try to serve dinner by 6:30 p.m.

Having a regular dinner time really does aid in my ability to get dinner to the table in a flash. I know every night what time I need to get started to make that deadline. If I know in advance that my prep time will be squeezed by other work or family obligations, I choose our menu accordingly.

Because we eat at roughly the same time every night, 6:30 has become sacred. Out of habit, we arrange our schedules around dinnertime and obligations that will interrupt it. We refrain from distractions like the Internet and the phone in the lead-up to dinnertime. My husband and son usually don't have to be reminded that it's time to wash up for dinner. In fact, it's quite interesting that my 3-year-old automatically toddles to the table around the same time every night.

Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Company's Comin' Casserole Mix

Sometimes you just need dinner in a jiffy -- something you can throw in a pan without measuring or chopping and know that it will meld into a yummy and satisfying meal.

A few years ago, during the Holiday Market show at our local coliseum, I discovered a family-owned business called Company's Comin' that sells homemade soups, casseroles and dip mixes. A character named Hal was dishing up samples (along with some corny jokes), and I just had to stop.

I've been buying from Company's Comin' ever since. The company, which has been featured on the Food Network and Food Finds, sells some of the yummiest and easiest recipe mixes. Add a few ingredients from your pantry, and you've made a quick and tasty meal.

I'm a big fan of the Little Chickie's Chicken and Dumplin' Soup (you use flour tortillas to make the dumplings -- ingenious!), the Upside Down Jackass Jalapenos (adds a kick to homemade chicken salad) and the King Ranch Chicken Casserole (cheesy, spicy comfort food.) I always keep a few Company's Comin' mixes in my pantry for those nights when I don't want to cook but have to anyway.

As part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving you the chance to sample one of my favorite Company's Comin' mixes -- King Ranch Chicken Casserole. The mix comes with all the spices and noodles. To complete the meal, you just add 8 ounces of cream cheese, milk, a can of chicken, a can of Rotel and a sprinkling of grated cheese.

The winner of this giveaway will receive one King Ranch Chicken Casserole Mix, and I'll also throw in the other nonperishable ingredients: a can of Rotel tomatoes and a can of chicken. (You can also use a rotisserie chicken or leftover grilled chicken.)

If you don't win the giveaway but would like to try Company's Comin', you can place an order online or follow Company's Comin' on Twitter to find out if the mixes will be for sale at a craft show in your area. Company's Comin' also is offering a discount of 15 percent on all orders of $80 or more throughout October. Just enter code OCT1580 at checkout.
