Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza: Pier One Wine Opener Set

I don't fancy myself an oenophile -- I can't detect hints of chocolate or a fruity finish to save my life. But I do enjoy a glass of wine now and then.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten a bit more sophisticated in my drinking habits. I wouldn't let the Boone's Farm wine that sustained me during my college days to cross my threshold!

In vino veritas, and I've had a glass tonight!

Seriously, though, I enjoy a good glass of wine and the ritual of drinking it.

As I've come to appreciate finer wines, I've upgraded my barware. Whether I'm hosting a party or enjoying a glass in solitude, I like to serve it in my finest crystal wine glasses. I've never been one to stash my good china and crystal away for "special occasions." I like to display it and use it; otherwise, what's the point in having it?

I used to use a cheapo corkscrew to open my wine, and I often struggled to wrest the cork from the bottle. That's no fun, which is why I invested in a nice set of wine accessories to make opening wine easier and more enjoyable.

Today, as part of the Goo Goo Giveaway Extravaganza, I'm giving away a sleek wine opener set from Pier One. I think it looks like just the sort of thing Don Draper on Mad Men might keep in his bar. The set includes a corkscrew, wine bottle collar, cutter and wine stopper.

Some of the 2 for one options are really good. I bought Spanish Cava that way and it's very good (sprakling wine)

And I like the Merlot for meat. There are some really good cheap Merlots. The Australian ones are a good buy.

I just went on a long weekend wine tasting tour. In the summer if you have a bottle of a good semi-sweet red wine take it, mix it with 1/4-1/2 cup grenadine (depending on your taste). Pour it on a flat cookie sheet with sides and stick in the freezer. It shoudl get to a mush you can easily scrape off. Its not fully frozen because of the alcohol. Nice refreshing wine slushy!
